July 13, 2008 - The Wishing Flower, Second Edition by Mosetta M. Penick Phillips-Cermak, Ph.D. has just been released in a casebound hard back edition, featuring 20 more pages of illustrations and enhanced text.
"Librarians and teachers commented on the need for more illustrations,"said Dr. Penick Phillips-Cermak, the author of this family fairy tale.
"The most rewarding aspect of doing the illustration was that the people for whom the book was written could recognized themselves," she said.
"I knew them well, and even with my childlike and unarguably less than professional illustrations, they were able so identify themselves.
Although I knew I would receive criticism for this decision to do the illustrations myself, I wanted the original illustrations that I had created to be part of the story. I wanted the pictures to be simplistic and childlike, to go with the innocence of the story I was trying to convey."
This is a short fantasy written for mothers and fathers to share with their children. It offers an original story about how special and unique each child is.
Parents who read this story to their children reinforce the child’s self-concept and convey to them just how much they are wanted and loved.
"I hope this encourages parents to read to their children." continued Dr. Penick Phillips-Cermak.
