  • (1888PressRelease) July 28, 2016 - On 26 June every year, UNODC marks the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which aims to raise awareness of the problems illicit drugs impose on society. In 2016, the campaign theme was "Listen First" which serves as an initiative to increase support for prevention of drug use.

On a busy day in June, during the Armed Forces Day celebrations, volunteers from Drug-Free World distributed over 800 booklets which contained factual information on the harmful effects of commonly abused drugs, such as marijuana, alcohol, ecstasy, cocaine and crack cocaine.
Plymouth saw a rise in Drug crime in May 2016 compared with the previous figures for the year (see: www.ukcrimestats.com/Constituency/65737). Focusing on prevention of drug use the Drug Free World volunteers, distributed over 2000 booklets during the month of June in the Plymouth area.

The Drug-Free World programme is sponsored by the Church of Scientology. Scientologists and volunteers in Plymouth work to provide public and local organisations with the true facts about drugs.

"Further events are planned as we want to continue to promote the message "Listen First" and we plan to distribute another 50,000 booklets in the coming months throughout Plymouth and the surrounding areas. We welcome support from other groups and individuals with a similar purpose. If you would like to help then please contact us at: plymouth ( @ ) drugfreeworld dot org.uk." says, Sandra Radanovavic Drug Free World Volunteer.
