The Right Place to Be is at NAFA's Practical Use of Telematics Session

Fleet managers can get learn how companies are using telematics technology to reduce operating costs and improve productivity during the "Practical Use of Telematics" session at NAFA's I&E in New Orleans.

Middlesex-Somerset-Hunterdon, NJ (1888PressRelease) April 17, 2009 - Whether it's tracking a package or the driver of a company vehicle, telematics has become one of the most popular tools in the fleet industry. Interest in the technology is so high that a session on telematics at NAFA's 2008 Institute & Expo was standing room only. NAFA continues to provide information for fleet managers on the topic with the educational session, "Practical Use of Telematics" on Monday, April 27th. The session, which is part of NAFA's 2009 I&E, features an expert panel that includes GE Capital Solutions Fleet Services representatives, along with moderator, Mike Camnetar, CAFM.

The session will explain how companies have leveraged telematics technology to reduce their operating costs and improve their overall business productivity. Attendees will learn how to improve customer service, fleet performance, and productivity of mobile workers. Case studies will provide examples of how companies have used telematics to achieve real results. The session will also discuss why key stakeholders in your business will be looking to this technology to solve challenges and identify opportunities.

Telematic systems can do everything from managing road use, monitoring tolls, tracking your fleet, provide short range communications (DSRC), deliver early warning accident notification alerts, and give remote engine diagnostics.

"We use GPS tracking in our landscaping business to track crews in the southeast," said Dan Headley of Piedmont Landscape Contractors. "We use (Networkcar and Discreet Wireless) to verify time at a job site, how long crews sit during the day with locations, where they are, and to verify billing information. Our GPS system also tells us if a check engine light is on what the problem is."

Members of GE Capital Solutions Fleet Services scheduled to participate include: Doug Peters, Technical Sales and Analytics Leader; Mark Smith, Strategic Consulting Leader; and Amie Thesingh, Telematics Operations Leader. The moderator, Mike Camnetar, CAFM, is the Fleet Manager for Standard Coffee Service in New Orleans.
