Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease)
April 15, 2008 - Atlanta, GA - Move over Virgin Mary toast, ghost cane, and Illinois cornflake. Sometimes fetching thousands of dollars for creative ebay® sellers, the strange items listed in the "Weird Stuff" category keep rolling in on the world's most popular auction site.
Now it's a coupon entitling the winning bidder to a mutant strawberry. A Georgia travel agent is hoping a buyer will snatch up the coupon redeemable for the bizarre berry found in a batch of strawberries bought at a local Sam's Club. According to Ann Lombardi, one of Atlanta's The Trip Chicks™, the unusual strawberry bears "a weird resemblance to two penguins kissing, right down to the birds' wings and profiles."
Apparently while washing the berries destined for her daily smoothies, Lombardi spotted the "kissing penguins" at the bottom of the container. "I then decided to rescue the berry from what would have been a sure death at the hands of my blender," she explains.
Though quick to point out that the "kissing penguins" strawberry is meant only to be a conversation piece and definitely not part of someone's shortcake or fruitcup, the long-time travel agent still hasn't figured out how to preserve the bodacious berry for safe shipping to a new owner. Lombardi has only until April 18th, the auction end date, to make sure the strawberry is in good hands. The next day she leaves to Europe on a business trip.
