March 16, 2009 - The Ten Plagues will magically unfold for diners during the April 8, 2009, Passover Seder observance at Temple Isaiah of Newport Beach.
The story of Passover will be portrayed through an inspiring performance of illusion and escape by modern-day magicianCurtis Lovell II.
Temple Isaiah, founded 35 years ago by Holocaust survivors Felix and Flory VanBeek, continues thousands of years of tradition with their Seder dinner and ceremony. The Seder will feature a modern magic show recreating the plagues cast upon Egypt. Rabbi Marc Rubenstein said, “I always wanted to see The Ten Plagues play out in a modern-day setting.” He will have his chance April 8.
To create the show, Temple Isaiah has engaged television magician and escape artist Curtis Lovell II. He has been buried alive, shackled and tossed into the Singapore River, locked in a box of water, cut Paris Hilton in half and challenged psychic John Edwards to a magic duel. Lovell has recently appeared on the Masters of Illusions television program on MyNetwork-TV.
“When I was approached with this opportunity, my mind immediately went a thousand different directions on how to recreate these plagues,” Lovell said, voicing his enthusiasm for the project.
The Seder dinner, THE MAGIC OF PASSOVER, will begin at 6:30 p.m. April 8, 2009, at the Orange County Fair and Events Center Building #16.

Curtis Lovell II:
Lovell cut Paris Hilton in half on the television show The Simple Life and demonstrated how to escape from handcuffs on Spike TV’s Manswers. He has publicly challenged David Blaine and noted psychic John Edward to magic duels. Lovell also appeared on the USA network Road Characters, on which he presented his Cube of Death – an effect similar to the feat Houdini once performed.
