The Local Index Launches Beta! New Website Provides Free Marketing Of Products And Services For Local Businesses For Holiday Season. Helps Local Businesses Stay In Touch With The Local Community

Wesly Michel, a recent College graduate, has launched a Website to encourage local shoppers to shop at small and medium sized businesses.

(1888PressRelease) December 02, 2007 - Philadelphia, PA -- The Local Index, a next generation online catalogue of local products and services has just announced the launch of its beta version, which is available online at www.thelocalindex.com. The Local Index allows local small and medium sized businesses to market their products and services using the Internet. Local businesses are encouraged to set up their online profile/storefront and upload pictures of their products and services that they offer on www.thelocalindex.com for free. The next generation online catalogue of local products and services provides businesses a new opportunity to offer shoppers a wide range of images to assist customers with the online decision making process.

“All in one, The Local Index helps businesses promote their products and services based on proximity of the local shopper,” Michel adds. SBA (Small Business Administration) reported that one of the top seven reasons why 40 percent of new businesses fail each year is due to not owning a website. Without online visibility, competition with larger companies threatens the neighborhood shop.” Wesly Michel.

“The Local Index creates an online community built on an online shopping business model that provides a unique advertising opportunity to local businesses and free personalized shopping experience to local residents,” Wesly Michel, founder of TheLocalIndex.com said.

The concept promotes a direct approach with visual images aimed at improving the search rankings of local businesses rather then text results as seen on local search based sites. Customers can find what they are looking for in stores locally. At first glance one may notice that there isn’t an online payment system, Michel informs, “We do this to limit the dependency that usually comes from online businesses and dedicate the site to encourage customer walk thru”.

The Local Index aligns itself amongst companies like Yahoo and Google, but with a different objective, to enable small and medium sized businesses a website where they can advertise and market themselves without getting overshadowed by larger competitors. "We simply refuse to allow Big-Box Retailers to advertise on The Local Index," Michel said.
