The 'Lemon' Funds Leaving A Bitter Taste

Informed Choice has published their second half-yearly survey of underperforming investment funds. Their latest 'LemonAid' report has identified over 300 funds containing more than £36bn of investor cash in urgent need of review.

(1888PressRelease) March 26, 2009 - The latest half-yearly LemonAid report from Chartered Financial Planners Informed Choice has identified over 300 funds in need of urgent review.

The LemonAid report highlights those investment funds that are most likely to leave a bitter taste in the mouths of investors. LemonAid looks at a variety of factors in addition to past performance. It also considers risk adjusted return, consistency and cost, before arriving at the list of funds in each investment asset class that investors need to urgently review.

This second LemonAid report contains 327 investment funds across the different investment sectors, out of a possible 1,736 funds open to investors. Informed Choice estimates that over £36bn of investor money is currently invested in these 'lemon' funds.

Informed Choice chartered financial planner Martin Bamford commented:

"As the turbulence in world investment markets continues, investors need to be proactive when it come to firing and replacing underperforming fund managers. There are 21% more funds appearing in this list of lemons compared to six months ago.

"This analysis of underperforming funds should act as a call to action for both investors and any lazy advisers who are not providing a regular review of client assets. There are superior alternatives available in each asset class and modern financial products make it cheap and easy to switch."
