July 23, 2009 - The Focal Point LLC, a litigation strategy and graphics firm, is among only 35 finalists for The Wall Street Journal and Winning Workplaces 2009 Top Small Workplaces award. Some 400 private, nonprofit and publicly held organizations were nominated for this year’s honor with the winner to be announced in The Wall Street Journal “Report on Small Business” on Sept. 28.
“We are thrilled to be recognized by the Journal as a finalist for North America’s Top Small Workplaces. At The Focal Point, we recognize that our value lies with the individual and in respecting the individual. As such, we continually aim to be a place where people feel passionate about their work. Their enthusiasm inspires our exemplary client service, educational programming and community support – all of which, ultimately, benefit our law firm and lawyer clients,” said Andrew Spingler, founder and member of The Focal Point.
The Focal Point was selected as a finalist based on an extensive nomination process that detailed the firm’s distinctive approach to maintaining employee engagement and satisfaction. Highlights include its non-hierarchical structure; ongoing encouragement and support of individual initiatives; and strict adherence to three, core, internal values that shape The Focal Point’s culture and guide its business approach: client service, craftsmanship and fun.
In its third annual ranking of the Top Small Workplaces, Winning Workplaces and The Wall Street Journal collaborated to recognize exceptional small organizations – private, nonprofit or publicly held – that foster teamwork, flexibility, high productivity and innovation while also helping their employees grow personally and professionally, and providing benefits that improve employee lives and communities. Nominees are independent organizations (not a unit of a larger corporation); with no more than $200 million in annual revenues; 500 or fewer employees; and at least five years of business history.
The finalists will be judged and winners selected by a national panel of small-business experts chosen by The Wall Street Journal and Winning Workplaces based on both metrics and qualitative assessment of their success in creating workplaces that nurture, challenge and reward employees.
The Focal Point, with nearly 20 years of litigation strategy and graphics business experience, is an Oakland-based company that works with lawyers to create winning presentation materials for use in the courtroom. Combining actual trial experience and technological know-how, The Focal Point offers a comprehensive suite of services from the development of strategic trial messaging to complete on-site trial technology support.
