June 17, 2007 - Just over 4 months ago, realizing that I have no source of income, I began to brainstorm ways of how to earn a living working for myself so I can further my education to becoming what I have always dreamed to be a stockbroker, I came up with the idea of creating a website called www.naijabarter.com, the purpose of this website is to form a safe online marketplace where foreign companies can advertise there companies and meet legitimate businesses in Africa it also serves as a link between sellers of different caliber goods. The aim is to provide low cost of advertisement for periods between one month to a maximum of one year.
Statistics have shown that, internet users in Africa are fast growing and catching up western world. It’s imminent, that Nigerians have discovered the power of this new technology as a form communication, with 70% of Nigerian population are exposed the internet and use it regularly, I deemed this an opportunity for foreign investors to exploit this market.
The urge to establish this website came when I realized that Nigerian buyers and sellers of various commodities of goods of a specific nature e.g.
industrial machines, used cars, either brand new, second hand or looking to exchange, have problems of locating each other around the country .
My website becomes a platform where various buyers and sellers of different commodities or goods could be viewed or advertised by the sellers for a token fee at the viewing pleasure of interested buyers for periods between one month to a year after registration as been made. It’s the first ever in Nigeria.
On our website, each company advertising is registered for as long as a one year period while individuals selling personal items is registered for a period as long as 3 months which, means his/her goods would be advertised for that period and if he/she as sold the goods before the registration runs out they still have the opportunity of advertising another good of the same category.
On the may 30th 2007, naijabarter.com started as a twinkle and now we have well of 10,000 visitors per week with daily growing amount of registered members.
