About Carol:
Carol Bajen-Gahm paints her unique brand of art as a response to the essence of a locale or landscape. Painterly shapes seem to bounce and dance before melding with the background while utilizing a muted palette that is subtle and yet overflowing with a passion for life. “I like to use color and spatial relationships to create mysterious regions, sensual spaces, and drama to evoke the spirit that lies within,” she explains. These beautifully crafted works are abstractions inspired by the places where she has visited and lived, including Mexico, Germany, South Korea, and Newfoundland. Bajen-Gahm’s artistic intent lies not in the minute details, but rather in capturing the atmosphere and light as well as the emotional context and experiences in the region.
She has been painting full-time since 1989, after setting aside her career as a professional musician playing classical and jazz. Her background in music is readily apparent in the harmony and rhythmic structure of each work. Bajen-Gahm currently divides her time between Massachusetts and Torbay, Newfoundland.
