May 07, 2006 - The Dirt Road Band from Gordon County will be among the performers at the annual Fiddle Fest sponsored by Audubon Acres in honor of the late fiddler “Uncle” Bob Douglas. Located in the East Brainerd area of Chattanooga, the Audubon Acres sponsored event will feature numerous area musicians, story tellers, and entertainers.
The Dirt Road Band’s nucleus is Henry Durham and Betty Jo Bailey, both of Calhoun. These two have played music together for about six years, appearing on stage at a variety of places ranging from the Oostanala Community Center to the Smokey Mountain Opry in Sevierville, Tn. The Dirt Road Band is known for its combination of fun with old time and bluegrass styles of music. Henry’s guitar work and the fiddling of Betty Jo will be rounded out with the addition of Bill Raper of Redwine Cove (Whitfield County,GA) on the upright bass and Tom Brown of Dalton, GA playing the banjo.
