The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders – More Than Meets The Eye

New study shows that the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have what it takes to be superstars in the workplace as well as on a football field.

Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) January 14, 2008 - A recent study, which included all 38 members of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, was just completed by NaviCore International, Inc., a Dallas based firm that specializes in the research and development of human potential and critical factors for top performance. The results were stunning. It revealed that the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are far more than just beautiful young women with cheerleading talent. The majority of them also have the attributes identified as critical to star performance in the workplace.

In the study quantitative measures were taken on multiple performance factors such as interpersonal effectiveness, leadership ability, decision-making ability, effectiveness at handling conflict, effectiveness under pressure, ability to attend to details and act with precision, ability to communicate one-on-one and in groups, emotional intelligence, change management and the ability to effectively cope in stressful situations.

The instrument used in the study is an in-depth, scientifically validated assessment called the CORE Multidimensional Awareness Profile (CORE MAP). Years of research has proven the CORE system of analysis to be exceptionally accurate at predicting personal effectiveness and performance.

What the patterns in the CORE MAP analysis of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders revealed is that the majority of them have performance profiles similar to those typically seen in corporate America’s most talented employees. The profiles of 87% of the DCC closely match two highly desirable workplace patterns; those of High Performers and those of High Potentials. This is almost ten times greater than the effectiveness levels seen in the general population for those who fall into the same age range as the DCC.

Sherry Buffington, Ph.D., president and founder of NaviCore International, Inc., has been researching human potential, effectiveness and performance factors since 1986 and has run analyses on thousands of people from corporate leaders to teenagers. According to Ms. Buffington, the implications of the research completely debunk the typical stereotypes surrounding cheerleader types. "Not many companies think of scouting the cheerleaders of highly selective professional teams for high performing employees," she said, "but according to this study, they certainly should. There’s a lot more to these young women than meets the eye and we have the data to prove it.”
