February 03, 2009 - Despite the fact that 99% of all books published will never sell more than 100 books in their lifetime, three successful authors have battled against these odds in 2008 – to win an award, gain a book publishing deal and become a bestselling author, all with the help of book extraordinaire Mindy Gibbins-Klein.
Lindsey Agness, Simon Zutshi and James McIntosh are the latest in a long line of protégés to benefit from the advice and guidance of Mindy, a highly acclaimed writing & publishing strategist, who to date has helped over 100 business and social leaders to write and successfully publish their books.
Lindsey Agness enlisted Mindy’s to help her write her first book Change your life with NLP, which was subsequently accepted by Pearson and to date has sold over 15,000 copies and is in its second printing.
Property whizz Simon Zutshi enlisted the Mindy’s support and following her proven methodology, produced his entire book within just 90 days. He launched Property Magic at a major property show in London and it was subsequently picked up by Waterstones and of course Amazon. Property Magic reached Number 1 in Property Investment on Amazon on launch day in February 2008 and has been a bestselling property book ever since.
Mindy also helped James McIntosh to focus his thoughts and pick the right strategy to publish his Cookbook “mix” with Word4Word, which recently won ‘Best cookbook in a series’ at the highly prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. (www.jamesmcintosh.co.uk)
Like any good midwife, Mindy is understandably thrilled with their successes, especially she says, when you consider that there are nearly half a million books published each year in the western world, many of which will simply disappear from sight soon after publication, often because they were rushed to market and were poorly prepared.
“People tend to think that it’s the publishing part which is difficult, but in fact that this easiest part of the entire process. With a plethora of options available from traditional publishing deals through to co-operative publishing, the hardest part is actually harnessing those initial ideas and crafting them into a book which reads well and does the author the justice they deserve, and this is where most people fall down. Authors are often too close to their work to really be able to critically appraise it,” says Mindy.
Lindsey Agness is testament to the value of having a sounding board during the writing process, after her book received two offers from major publishing houses and passed through the publishing process with minimal editing. “The fact the Pearson felt my book didn’t need much editing really boosted my confidence as a writer, and Mindy was instrumental in helping me to channel my thoughts into producing the best possible book,” says Lindsey, who is currently planning her second book.
The Book Midwife® coaching and consultancy services have been used by senior executives, business owners and industry experts across the globe for years and follow a proven methodology, which if adhered to, can result in the completion of a book within just 90 days. Simon Zutshi managed to complete his book within the 90 day timeframe as says, "I had been meaning to write a book for a few years and having tried a few times unsuccessfully it seemed like a daunting task which I did not have time for. However, I was delighted to see how easy the process became with Mindy's expert guidance and support. In what seemed like no time at all I had a great book in my hands which has given me even more credibility and has resulted in direct sales for my business."
Mindy has high hopes for her current roster of aspiring authors and is currently busy helping a leading HR consultant with over 25 years experience in his field to launch the book he developed with her help and guidance.
