The Alzheimer's Association Has Chosen Lindsey Jordan, Age 13 As This Year's "Caregiver Of The Year"

At 13, Lindsey is a straight A student, a working actor/singer, a caregiver, and a child and Alzheimer’s advocate. Over the last few years, Lindsey has seen her father deteriorate rapidly.

(1888PressRelease) October 22, 2007 - At an early age, Lindsey has helped care for her father, Charles, who was showing signs of dementia in his late 40s.

The family knew there was no cure for Charles, but they did knew the importance of trial studies...hopefully it would help future Alzheimer’s patients. Charles stayed with UCLA for the next 4 years. It was during this time that Lindsey and her Mother became involved with the Alzheimer’s Association. They soon began to understand this terrible disease and became advocates for Alzheimer’s.

Several times Lindsey and her Mother went to Sacramento to speak to the various State Legislators to whom Lindsey told their story. She explained how she helped care for him and told them that her Dad would never see her graduate from high school or college, or walk her down the aisle, or meet her children. Most of the State Legislators seem to understand and some, even men, were brought to tears.

At 13, Lindsey is a straight A student, a working actor/singer, a caregiver, and a child and Alzheimer’s advocate. Over the last few years, Lindsey has seen her father deteriorate rapidly. She has helped bathe, dress, feed, and comfort her father...and her mother.

As an Alzheimer's advocate, Lindsey continues to heighten Alzheimer's awareness by sharing her story to others through the Alzheimer's Association's Awareness Video, Newsweek Magazine, press releases, and her travels to Sacramento to lobby state and local community leaders.

Lindsey will be presented with the prestigious "Caregiver of the Year" award at the 16th annual "Night at Sardi's" to be held on Wednesday night, March 5, 2008.

"We are so thrilled to honor Lindsey this year at our "Night at Sardi's" event to benefit the Alzheimer's Association. Lindsey is such a special young woman. Her courage and caring at such a young age are an example for all caregivers" says Laurie Burrows Grad, co-chairman and founder of the "Night at Sardi's".

Lindsey's efforts have also come to the attention of her local community and a local theatre group who are presenting an evening of entertainment and fundraising to assist Lindsey and her family. they have also added a page to their website to inform the public how they can help. http://www.itsonlytuesday.com/yourhelp.html
