  • Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) April 08, 2011 - The 100 Urban Entrepreneurs (www.100urbanentrepreneurs.org) "Handle Your Business Tour", will arrive in Washington, DC on April 21, 2011 at Howard University to give students and young entrepreneurs around the DC metropolitan area an opportunity to compete for $10,000 in startup capital. The Handle Your Business Tour and competition is presented in partnership with Howard University's Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

    Entrepreneurs from all business disciplines will have an opportunity to pitch their business ideas to the panel of judges including 100 Urban Entrepreneurs CEO and co-founder, Magnus Greaves, Grammy Award winning producer, Bryan-Michael Cox and Vice President of Corporate Real Estate for ADP, Brian Banks. Winners will receive $10,000 dollars in startup capital and gain admittance to 100 Urban Entrepreneurs Funding and Mentoring Program, an intensive eight week professional mentoring program that offers recipients a unique opportunity to interact with business leaders and other talented entrepreneurs. Members gain access to professional networks that provide valuable resources to help build successful and sustainable businesses.

    In 2010 ages 20-34 comprised 26% of the total new entrepreneurship activity in the United States and the African American entrepreneurial activity rate decreased from 0.27% in 2009 to 0.24% in 2010, according to the 2010 Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity. 100UE's mission is to help provide a meaningful, long-term economic boost to urban communities by supporting minority entrepreneurship at its earliest stages. This mission continues to be supported by Howardites both past and present. Notable Howard University graduate and music mogul, Sean "Diddy" Combs recently donated $100,000 to 100UE. Combs' donations will be used to supplement the Sean "Diddy" Combs Entrepreneurial Fund established by 100 Urban Entrepreneurs and The Carriere Foundation.
