  • (1888PressRelease) June 09, 2009 - United States of America - The Dynamic Team of Dr. Misty Brown joined her as she traveled to the Misch International Implant Institute. They all walked away with invaluable information specifically taught by Doctors Carl Misch and Mark Setter. The team was "blown away" by the professionalism of these two astonishing doctors. Kay DeYoung, Dr. Brown's office manager for well over a decade stated, "Of all the courses we have attended over the years, this ranks as one of my top two favorite team training courses. Linda Miles is gifted in team training, but specifically for implant team training, Dr. Misch and Dr. Setter made it so fun to learn!"

The training had a one day session including both the doctors and the team members. The next days, the teams trained with Dr. Setter and a few other speakers, while the doctors continued their residency training with Dr. Misch. "It was important to me to bring my entire team, including my dental team, my daycare team and the gentleman who runs my Laboratory, so we could all enjoy this invaluable learning experience together. I am so very proud of the team I have. Each person is crucial to our daily goal: Elite patient care in a comfortable, professional environment. Dr. Misch and Dr. Setter have set the bar for other dentists to strive to meet.”

Dr. Misch taught the teams about the present day rationale for dental implants. He also stressed how our population is growing and living longer. Dr. Misch enlightened the teams that as of 2008, 63% of employed adults are missing 1 or more teeth and 98% of adults older than 65 years old are missing one or more teeth as well. 80% of ALL adults have some form of periodontal (gum) disease according to a study by Graber, T. & Vanarsdall, R., 4th ed., pp.901-917, 956-956. Since the team returned, they have applied the skills they learned and the office is running more proficient and smoother than ever! "This team has been together for many years now, and I am proud to say we are a more cohesive since our return," according to Hygienist Sharla Wilde. Dr. Brown’s lead surgical assistant, Keegan Beatty, described the experience as “Unforgettable. My favorite night was our team dinner with Dr. Setter. I admire him in so many ways. It was an opportunity of a lifetime for any Certified Dental Assistant. We all hit the ground running the following Monday morning eager to share all we learned with our patients.”

Dr. Brown made an excellent point about dental continuing education, “I have seen it time and time again where the Doctor attends a fabulous course and returns to the office all excited! Then the team just looks at you like, well that’s great Dr. Brown and in the back of their minds, I know what they are thinking…just give her a little time and things will get back to normal!” Dr. Brown laughs as she recalls her days as a dental assistant. “ I remember those days when the Doctor came back from a study club or course somewhere with all kinds of great ideas, but never had the time to thoroughly teach us how to incorporate those new ideas into our daily practice.

Dr. Setter was amazing in teaching my team how to strategically implement the concepts he taught and how to work more efficiently, therefore allowing me to focus completely on patient care. And it is working!” Dr. Brown went on to tell me about Dr. Setter’s practice in Port Huron, Michigan. “A gentleman in every sense of the word and an amazing family man, Dr. Setter encourages dentists to come into his practice and observe how smoothly his practice operates daily. What an opportunity for any dentist wanting to strengthen their business skills! He is all about helping his colleagues better themselves."

Dr. Brown travels internationally providing dental relief to orphanages in Bulgaria and Romania. She is fluent in Spanish and has an in office daycare program for the children of her team members. She is a member of the ICOI, a Master in the American Dental Implant Association, and has completed all educational requirements necessary to become a Fellow in the American Academy of General Dentistry. She will sit for the examination portion this summer to complete all requirements to attain this prestigious award. She was voted "Top Dentist" in the United States in 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2008. Her local peers voted her "Top Doc" in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex for many consecutive years including 2009. She will be featured in the 2009 August issue of the Fort Worth Texas Magazine acknowledging her accomplishments.

Her other studies include a 270 hour commitment to the Kois Center for Dental Excellence located in Seattle, Washington. She has completed half of the requirements to be a mentor at the Kois Center. Dr. Brown describes the Kois Center as “the backbone of how I practice and where I study. Dr. John Kois is the most honest, well read, scientific based dentist in the history of our career. His knowledge of the literature is 100% accurate and his quest for excellence resonates in all he does and teaches.”

Dr. Brown is also a graduate of Dr. Arun Garg’s Master Series Preceptorship and Implant Continuum. “Dr. Garg is a truly gifted Oral Surgeon and joins Dr. Kois as my top two favorite mentors. Dr. Garg is truly a world class surgeon and researcher. He has a gift of teaching dentists and encouraging us to be the best we can be. My team attended his teaching facility in Florida and were eager to continue their education, so we did!” Implant Seminars hosts internationally renown surgeons and those surgeons perform live hands-on demonstrations to further develop the dentist’s skills and knowledge base. Dr. Garg has published crucial research that has enhanced the way implants, bone grafts and sinus augmentations are done today via PRP use during certain advanced dental procedures. PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) expedites the healing phase in numerous ways for patients receiving oral surgery. Dr. Garg pioneered the technology used today.
