July 21, 2008 - Melbourne Australia;
Telepathx Ltd. announced today that its smart electric energy grid sensor solution for transmission and distribution networks (T&D) has been selected to receive the 2008 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Industrial Technologies Award for Entrepreneurial Company of the Year in the Active radio frequency identification (RFID) Tags Market. This Award acknowledges the relentless efforts and recognizes Telepathx’ outstanding performance in 2007.
James Eades Telepathx Chairman & CEO said “the company was thrilled with being recognized again, we have been working on this project for five years now and it looks like we finally got the correct mix of system technologies in place”.
In 2006 Telepathx pioneered reactive self managing sensor technology that enable energy providers to monitor faulting assets such as cables, fuses, insulators & transformers, increasing the quality of power and reducing unnecessary and costly maintenance outings. The sensors once activated transmit to cellular based relays and in the near future will transmit directly to next generation smart electric meters, broadband over power line (BPL) and Wifi access points providing an instantiations notification of asset description and location.
In Australia, the Federal Government has earmarked 2.4 billion dollars for a nationwide smart meter project to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions over the next ten years. We see this as a tremendous opportunity to expand and leverage the capabilities of these smart meters to deliver not only an intelligent energy grid but additional life saving services.
In addition to monitoring energy assets these networks will monitor floods, mudslides, auto accidents, bushfire ignitions and residential and industrial alarm systems generating new unregulated revenues. We have had extremely positive discussions with the Essential Services Commission and the Department of Primary Industries; the two entities spearheading the Australian project and we are now working directly with the meter and BPL manufactures on integrating the sensors.
Government officials here see this as a real opportunity to increase the quality of life for the entire country; energy assets fail with some regularity sometimes resulting in bushfire ignitions, just in the state of Victoria 14% of all hectares destroyed by fire are the result of faulting energy assets and being able to catch these fires before they become significant fire events will save the country and residents precious resources and needless suffering.
Eades added “limiting power outages will reduce the need for backup coal and gas fired power generation, this coupled with reducing energy related bushfires ignitions will significantly reduce the countries overall carbon emissions.
The Frost & Sullivan Award for Entrepreneurial Company is presented to Telepathx for
demonstrating superior entrepreneurial ability in its industry during the research period This Award signifies the company's identification of a unique and revolutionary product solution with significant market potential. Additionally, the Award certifies that the company's marketing strategy is sound and poised for success.
