May 17, 2008 - Harlem based rappers Square Off collaborate their freshman mixtape with several of Hip Hop’s most influential figures to collaborate the first installment of series of ‘Fresh 2 Def’ hosted by DJ Whoo Kid and original tracks produced by DJ CMS. Throughout the release, Fresh 2 Def is joined by contributors like, Diddy, Tony Yayo and super producer Teddy Riley for short skits. Many rappers have used the “fresh” verbiage, but this group possess’ the rights of passage to “Fresh” legacy. Slim and Trips being the sons’ of Hip Hop Icon, Doug E. Fresh and Gleamz an immediate family member.
Their first single off album, ‘We Ridin’ featuring Grammy award winning, Krayzie Bone member of Bones Thugs-N-Harmony. The single is already making a buzz for the summer. Additionally, mega recording artist and producer Akon of Konvict Music is featured on the single ‘Stay Down’. Group member Trips says, “the mixtape is a mirror to the streets it’s not all street it shows versatility we speak to the females and we educate the streets.”
The group’s popularity has recently escalated with their feature on BET’s Rap City in February 2008. Fresh 2 Def is a reflection of their lives aspirations, struggles and emotions growing up in the streets of New York City. The primary vision of the album was to create a timeless classic infusing the old with the new - “New Old School” Hip Hop. Square Off is embarking on the opportunity to give back good music while the album has bi-coastal appeal and doesn’t target any one specific audience, whilst maintaining the core of New York rap with a subtle south edge.
