Boulder, CO (1888PressRelease)
April 20, 2007 - Ten promising start-up technology companies and entrepreneurs have been selected from a field of over 300 applicants to develop their prototypes, products and business models in Boulder this summer.
Founded by local investors and entrepreneurs David Cohen, Brad Feld, Jared Polis and David Brown, TechStars is an innovative program designed to discover, develop and finance the companies of the future. In addition to office space, operational support and up to $15,000 in seed capital, the ten teams will have unprecedented access to successful business leaders, mentors and potential investors unique to Boulder's entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Only two of the selected teams are from Colorado. Others will be coming in from New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Florida, St. Louis, Texas, South Carolina and Sweden. The companies represent several business platforms ranging from consumer Internet services to on-demand business applications.
"With more than 300 applicants for only ten spots, making the selection wasn’t easy," said David Cohen, TechStars executive director. “But, we have chosen ten really interesting companies. These teams represent some of the brightest young entrepreneurs, all with outstanding business ideas and potential for growth. They are fired up and ready to succeed, and we’re excited to help them.”
Matt Galligan, founder of the St. Louis-based start-up company digitalsoap, is thrilled to be heading to Boulder this summer. “TechStars has strapped a jet engine to our backs and lit the match,” he said. “We’re ready to show what were made of and we’re ready to learn.”
Arron Kallenberg of Seattle will also be coming to Boulder this summer. “I see TechStars filing a niche that neither the public education system nor the corporate world is currently equipped to deal with. I’m excited to participate with TechStars because the program balances hands-on experience with a host of mentors who can draw on their own experiences to progress these entrepreneurs’ understanding and improve their chances for success.”
Many of the companies are just getting started. “However,” Cohen said, “you’ll be hearing much more about these companies as they launch later this year.”
TechStars sponsors and supporters include CTEK Angels, Cooley Godward Kronish, ViaWest, Metzger Associates, Texture Media, the University of Colorado and Denver University.
