TBF is offering Multi-Sport Vacations to the 2nd Annual Phuket International Marathon and the 14th Annual Laguna Phuket Triathlon as well as supporting Multi-Sport Classes to train for the events.
SACRAMENTO, Calif., January 16, 2007 – Total Body Fitness (TBF) has announced its plans to be the Official North American Travel Company for the Phuket International Marathon. TBF is offering an 8-day package vacation to Phuket Thailand for the marathon, and is also offering a 12-week training class for athletes in the Sacramento area to get in shape for the race. TBF is also the Official North American Travel Company for the Laguna Phuket Triathlon, and has a two-week or one-week trip for the event to which it has been bringing North American triathletes for the last five years.
Assistant Race Director Roman Floesser selected TBF as its official North America race travel agent because of the company’s performance in bringing athletes to Thailand for the Laguna Phuket Triathlon over the past few years. Last year was the largest group of athletes traveling with TBF to race the event in Thailand with over 25 individuals in the group made up of athletes from California, Louisiana, Texas, and Washington. Three of the TBF Triathletes received awards at the 2006 Laguna Phuket Triathlon: a third place in the men 30-34 for Todd Dooley, a second place in the men 24 and under for Ben Greenfield, and a first place for Klint Robins in the Clydesdale division.
Racing and Training for the Phuket Marathon
According to Bill Driskill, co-owner of TBF, Marathons are becoming popular once again as more athletes look for challenges. “There is a ‘marathon boom’ going on right now. Runners are accelerating their distances and racing marathons at a much younger age and sooner pace than ever before.” This is exemplified in the increasing surge in marathon distance races and ultra-marathon distance races. One Northern California ultra-race, the Cool 50K, sold out –filled up, in less than two hours recently. More and more marathons are getting more and more crowded.
As athletes search for the next exciting race to do, many athletes are looking to Phuket, Thailand. TBF has been offering adventure travel packages to Thailand since 2000.
Last year’s inaugural marathon event was a huge success and this year’s events: the marathon, a half-marathon, 10K and 5K, are expected to attract 4,000 runners. “Thailand is an exotic and beautiful location for athletes wanting to enter an international marathon.” says Bill Driskill. “We can help you get in shape for the Phuket Marathon, and guarantee a great time at the race in Thailand. The people are friendly, the country is beautiful, and no other race has a baby elephant at the finish line. Being escorted by TBF Travel eliminates all the stress while saving you time and money.”
For the June 17, 2007 Phuket International Marathon, TBF Travel has an 8-day escorted trip that includes seven nights at the host hotel, the Laguna Beach Resort in Laguna Phuket, daily breakfast and other meals, race entry fee, pre-race Pasta party and Farewell Party, marathon training runs and strategy sessions before the race, and domestic flights and all group transfers within Thailand. The adventure activities on the trip besides the marathon include: snorkeling, elephant riding, bamboo river rafting, and wildlife viewing. This package is priced at $1,399 per person, (excluding international airfare to Bangkok) double occupancy.
The 12-week training class for the Phuket International Marathon is based in the Sacramento area and will meet twice a week for runs – one a track workout and one a long, slow distance workout, and also have marathon seminars to help athletes balance nutrition, strength, body care and other issues of training for a marathon. Coaches in the class will travel with the group to the race in Thailand. TBF has been training marathon runners since the early 90’s – partners Bill and Mark Shaw were founding coaches of the Leukemia Society Team in Training Marathon program, and Bill has run in 15 marathons, including the Boston, Paris, and Bangkok Marathons. About Laguna Phuket Triathlon
The Laguna Phuket Triathlon is a challenging 1.2-mile swim in the sea and lagoon, followed by a 34-mile hilly bike course and a 7.5-mile run along the gorgeously landscaped grounds of the Laguna Phuket Resort and Golf Course. The swim course comprises 2 bodies of water. Starting on the beach at the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket hotel, competitors swim 1,430 meters in the Andaman Sea before sprinting 100 meters across the beach to swim the final 370 meters in a fresh water lagoon. The bike course takes competitors out of Laguna Phuket onto narrow, winding roads past rice fields, coconut groves and Thai villages. The run course is flat and takes runners north through the Laguna Phuket Resort complex, past behind the Laguna Phuket Golf Course, before looping back through winding paved roads and dirt trails. The race is an Ironman qualifier for Ironman Australia. Information on the TBF Travel one and two-week trips to Phuket for the 14th Annual Laguna Phuket Triathlon can be found at: www.tbftravel.com
