Taking Out The Trash: A New Approach To Spring Cleaning

The annual ritual of spring cleaning will overcome approximately 80% of women this spring. Over 500 Women took Brook Noel's Extreme Home Makeover 10 Week Spring Cleaning Boot Camp last year and tossed over 2000 bags of trash

(1888PressRelease) January 26, 2007 - The primary goal? For 74% of us, we want to get rid of clutter.

Among the dark recesses of our homes we find clothes we haven’t worn, books we haven’t read, and treasures that we forgot we have like the lilac doily from Aunt Matilda, and the reindeer sweatshirt from Uncle Joe.

Over the past year, life coach Brook Noel, author of The Change Your Life Challenge: A 70 Day Life Makeover Program for Women, has helped hundreds of women complete what she calls, “Extreme Home Makeover: 10 Week Spring Cleaning Boot camp.” Through online participation, cleaning “drills,” and contests these participants have turned the dreaded task of cleaning into an annual adventure.

In the first year over 2000 bags of trash and donated goods left the houses of participants. At the end of 10 weeks participants agreed that they had never had such an organized home, along with a plan for maintenance. Noel attributes much of the success of the program to camaraderie. “Conquering a closet can be a pretty big feat, but our families often don’t recognize the Everest we climbed. We can quickly grow discouraged or give up on our cleaning plans. By bringing women with the same goal together, we motivate one another and recognize each other’s accomplishments.”

The “cleaning drills/cleaning sprints” are a favorite part of the program. “We meet online at designated times,” says Noel. “We choose an area to tackle and race around 20-minutes. Then we report in, share our progress and visit for 10 minutes. Then we do it all again… often for hours at a time!” These sprints have led to new friendships and much laughter as people report in about the oddest thing they found.

Before and after pictures show the reality of the clutter we face (available upon request) along with the success that can come by tackling one small space at a time.
