28 OCT	Swissotel Hotels & Resorts to open its first hotel in the Middle East: Swissotel Makkah in Saudi Arabia
	ZURICH, 27th October 2009 – Construction is under way on Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts’ first hotel in the Middle East: Swissôtel Makkah in Saudi Arabia. The international hotel chain expects the hotel to open in January 2011.

	Renowned for its architecture and location, the AAA Four-Diamond Swissôtel Chicago has opened it’s new meeting and convention centre. $47 million were invested into this expansion plan comprised of over 38’000 square feet of function space including a state-of-the-art 14’000 square feet ballroom.

	Pierre U. Stacher, General Manager of Swissôtel Sydney, has been honoured with the prestigious Australian ‘National Tourism Legend’ award at the 2009 Tourism Training Australia National Conference. The awards, hosted by Tourism Training Australia, were presented at a lavish gala dinner.

12 May	Art Directors Club Award For Swiss Papercuts – A New Design Theme For Swissotel Hotels & Resorts
	The modern, contemporary design that characterises the international hotel chain Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts will from now on include a traditionally Swiss element: lobbies, guest rooms and other areas will feature a “Wheel of Life” in the form of a papercut silhouette bearing images from Switzerland.

	As part of its corporate development, which is geared towards sustainability, Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts decided to set up an integrated Management System conforming to internationally recognised standards.

19 MAR	Convene In Style On The Turkish Aegean – The Grand Efes Convention Centre In Swissotel Izmir
	Business representatives can now convene in style at the Swissotel Grand Efes, Izmir on the Turkish Aegean. The elegant hotel, a “Leading Hotel of the World”, celebrated its opening last year, and now the Grand Efes Convention Centre, within the hotel complex, has also opened for business.

	Basel, 25th September 2008 – Environmentally-sound mobility and tourism are the focus of an innovative project by Swissôtel Le Plaza Basel in collaboration with Basel Tourism. Guests now have the opportunity to join guided tours on two-wheeled Segway Personal Transporters (PTs), the first, self-balancing electric vehicles ever developed.
