September 23, 2009 - Administered annually by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the CEI recognizes U.S. businesses for their policies and practices pertaining to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) employees.
"We are proud to once again receive a perfect score on the Corporate Equality Index," said Wes Thompson, President, Sun Life Financial U.S. "Sun Life works hard to maintain a culture that fosters diversity and inclusion, and our results from the Human Rights Campaign's survey represent our commitment to ensuring fairness and equality in all aspects of our business."
The CEI rated 590 businesses in total on a scale of 0 to 100, evaluating LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination policies, transgender-inclusive benefits, spousal and domestic partner benefits, diversity management and external engagement. Sun Life's efforts in ensuring LGBT equality in each of the survey's main criterion earned it the prestigious 100 percent ranking.
