Stratton-Faxon Honored By Greater New Haven Chamber Of Commerce

New Haven based trial law firm receives Nonprofit Partnership Award.

(1888PressRelease) January 31, 2009 - On October 23, 2008, about 600 people attended the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards luncheon at the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale University. The main award of the day was the 2008 Community Leadership Award presented to Marvin Lender, board of trustees member, at Yale-New Haven Hospital; who, along with his wife Helaine, is spearheading a $100 million fundraising campaign for the Smilow Cancer Hospital.

Among other prestigious awards presented on that Thursday by the Chamber, was the Business Partnership Non-Profits Award given to Stratton-Faxon, Connecticut’s Firm for Trial Law. Based in downtown New Haven, Stratton-Faxon received the award for a combination of reasons. Founding partners Michael Stratton and Joel Faxon, according to the Chamber’s recently released public information, are “listed as among the top trial lawyers in the country and receive the highest ethical ratings from peer review boards,” but that’s just the beginning. Stratton-Faxon’s policy of concerted giving, known as their “10% Philosophy,” has become a major source of support for the New Haven area for a variety of causes and organizations, according to the same compiled source. The firm sets aside 10% of its fee on each case for charitable purposes, which “creates a sense of positive legacy for the principals.” Perhaps because “donations are directed to the client’s charity of choice as well as to community organizations that are meaningful to the firm’s partners,” the prestigious award was bestowed.

Stratton-Faxon doesn’t end there with a pronounced and demonstrable spirit of giving. Community outreach from the firm’s “Fresh Faces” campaign, with more than $100,000 donated in 2008 alone, is another Stratton-Faxon avenue for helping people; one that has garnered further accolades. Much of this is targeted to financially struggling legal aid agencies in this time of stagnant economic prospects, when other funding sources have been adversely effected.

Connecticut’s Firm for Trial Law also sponsors a number of community events throughout the year. For instance, Stratton-Faxon is the title sponsor for the annual New Haven 20 Kilometer and 6 Kilometer Road Races, which have been a New Haven established tradition on Labor Day for more than three decades.
