October 04, 2008 - Peculiar Times, the new book by Brian Andreas, is full of wit and wisdom and ridiculously fun! But that’s not really news. What is news is that the book is completely digital. And free.
Andreas’ short stories and quirky drawings, distributed by StoryPeople, are usually only available in traditional media – books, prints and sculptures made of reclaimed barn wood. ‘Peculiar Times,’ a hand picked selection of some of Brian’s original stories and drawings, represents the company’s first paperless product, formatted both as a PDF for download and for Kindle players. Both versions are available through the company website.
In typical StoryPeople fashion, the emphasis is less on dazzling with technology and more on sharing the ingredients of Brian Andreas' imagination. His fascination with using technology for storytelling started in 1990 and has evolved ever since.
His enthusiasm is catching; StoryPeople staff, known as The Crew, are now transforming certain pieces of Andreas’ work for new media productions, including animation.
Andreas adds, “There’s no question that people love the art and stories that they can touch, feel and hang on their walls. The work we put on the web, though, has a certain magical quality to it,” and he adds with a grin, “like it might appear at any time and disappear any second. “
