November 28, 2008 - Sterlite Industries (India) Limited (SIIL) celebrated national environmental conservation day on the company premises in a grand manner.
As part of the celebrations, tree plantation programme was organized in association with district environmental and forest officials. Mr.T.Kumaravel, Assistant Environmental Engineer, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, Tuticorin inaugurated the programme by planting a tree sapling on the industry premises.
Sterlite’s initiative was to create awareness on trees which are huge ecological potential service provider to the environment by acting as pollution moderators, soil erosion preventers & as a sink for greenhouse gases.
Sterlite is more conscious on planting & developing greeneries not only on its premises but also in and around Tuticorin including District Collectorate and Tuticorin Government Hospital. Till now more than seventy thousand trees were planted and developed by the company in and around Tuticorin in a mission to create cleaner & greener environment in Tuticorin.
Mr. T.Lakshmanan, Tuticorin District Forest Ranger, Mr.Murugesan, Forester and Mr.T.Sargunan, General Manager -Health Safety & Environment, SIIL were also present on the occasion.
