December 11, 2008 - Sterlite Industries (I) Ltd (SIIL) has bagged Corporate Super Platinum Award in India Manufacturing Excellence Awards (IMEA) 2008 presented by M/s Frost & Sullivan, a global growth consulting company this year.
Sterlite received the award for its facilities at Tuticorin and Silvassa in a recent function held at Leela Palace, Bangalore.
The award was presented to Mr.Prasad Surya Rao, Vice President – Operations, SIIL by Mr.Vikram Kirloskar, Chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Toyota Pvt Ltd and Sudhir M Trehan, Managing Director, Crompton Greaves Ltd on the first day of two day Manufacturing Summit 2008 organised by M/s Frost and Sullivan.
This honour was in recognition to Sterlite’s manufacturing excellence amongst large facilities comprising sub categories like process industries, automotive ancillaries, metals, health care and chemical industries. These awards are presented to those who have achieved and sustained manufacturing excellence.
Around 176 applicants competed for the award and 63 facilities were short listed for site visit after the first cycle of assessment. Based on 12- 14 point criteria and rigorous evaluation, the super platinum award which is the best of the honours amongst all the categories was conferred on Sterlite.
Manufacturing summit 2008 was organized to share best practices and wide range of areas that continue to pose a challenge to achieve higher degrees of manufacturing excellence in a common platform.
In the two days summit, delegates from various industries shared their best practices in the areas of customer orientation, quality management systems, asset care, total employee involvement, supply chain management, operational flexibility, material handling systems, visual management, inventory management, innovation, excellence through automation, excellence through software integration etc. Mr.G.S.Govindaraj, Head – Business Excellence, SIIL shared the manufacturing excellence at Sterlite in the summit.
Mr.Sumit Bajpai, Associate Manager – Refinery, SIIL was also among those who were present on the occasion.
