December 08, 2008 - Sterlite Industries (India) Limited (SIIL) (“Sterlite or the “Company”), a subsidiary of the London listed FTSE 100 diversified metals and mining company, Vedanta Resources Plc (“Vedanta”) has been felicitated on the occasion of Southern Prosperity through Enhanced Economic Development (SPEED) 2008 organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Madurai Zone in Madurai on Friday for its contribution in the state’s manufacturing revenues by investing in the Southern region of Tamil Nadu.
Mr.Thangam Thennarasu, Minister for School Education presented the Gems of South Tamil Nadu award to Mr.Joseph J M Peeris, General Manager – Human Resources, SIIL
Sterlite was selected for this prestigious award for its investment at Tuticorin plant which acts as a key catalyst for the industrial development in Southern Tamil Nadu.
“Sterlite’s copper business has been a significant contributor to the state’s manufacturing revenues. As an industry Sterlite has triggered growth and development in Tuticorin by creating enough job opportunities not only to the people in the district but also in the neighbouring districts,” Mr.Joseph said on this achievement.
The main aim of the event was to promote investments from other parts of the country & world to this region. The event was organised to showcase the various investors in South Tamil Nadu to the corporate world.
