Indianapolis, IN (1888PressRelease) September 02, 2009 - Stephen Larsen, PhD, award-winning author and Psychology Professor Emeritus at SUNY Ulster, New York, is a featured speaker at the ISNR (International Society for Neurofeedback and Research) Annual Conference at the Marriott Downtown Hotel and Convention Center, 350 West Maryland Street, Indianapolis, September 1 through 7, 2009.

September 1-3 Larsen is teaching a preconference intensive for professionals on “The LENS EEG Method” and will discuss some of the ideas put forth in his best-selling neurofeedback book The Healing Power of Neurofeedback: The Revolutionary LENS Method for Restoring Optimal Brain Function (Healing Arts Press, 2006). September 3-6 he is presenting professional papers on the case of a four year old with autism who was helped by the LENS method. He will also chair a symposium with acknowledged neurofeedback experts Len Ochs, Siegried Othmer, and Mary Lee Esty on healing the wounds of war and trauma. The LENS (low energy neurofeedback system) is considered a revolutionary technique for mental health care as it restores optimal brain function. The LENS technique was invented by Larsen’s mentor and colleague, Dr. Len Ochs, to whom Larsen’s book is dedicated.

The ISNR is composed of health professionals, educators, researchers and students from the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Japan. Its mission is to “promote excellence in clinical practice, educational applications, and research in applied neuroscience in order to better understand and enhance brain function.”

When Dr. Larsen was on the faculty at Ulster, 1968-1996, he directed a program in consciousness studies and biofeedback that gave students a hands-on opportunity to train themselves plus research the health benefits of biofeedback. In 1990 he opened Stone Mountain Counseling, PC, for psychotherapy, biofeedback and training where he continues to serve as its director.

In addition to The Healing Power of Neurofeedback, Stephen Larsen PhD, LMHC BCIA-eeg, LENS certified, and Hearth Math certified, is the author of the award-winning The Fundamentalist Mind: How Polarized Thinking Imperils Us All. Dr. Larsen also wrote The Shaman’s Doorway, the Mythic Imagination. With his wife Robin he co-authored, A Fire in the Mind: The Life of Joseph Campbell. Larsen was a Joseph Campbell friend and protégé.
