November 28, 2007 - MARBLECast Products, Inc. of Salt Lake City, Utah owners of STATUES.COM has been tasked as the official manufacturer for a very special historical statue reproduction project of the Alaskan Territorial Guards. The project is being spearheaded by the Alaskan Indian Tribe of Fairbanks, Alaska in conjunction with the Alaska Veterans Administration. Also known as the Guardians of the North… The Alaska Territorial Guard was formed to allow the United States the means to identify further potential incursions of the Japanese in Alaska along the vast coastline of the territory. There was some initial controversy in recruiting and arming Alaska Natives as at the time there was legal and social segregation by race across Alaska. The participation of Alaska Natives in the military during World War II, in spite of these bitter circumstances, speaks well of the patriotism and hopefulness of that generation of Alaska Natives
The statue reproduction is 14” tall and has been sculpted by Alaskan native sculptor James Grant of Fairbanks. The original sculpture was hand carried to Salt Lake City, Utah for the molding process to begin. Reproductions will be made of marble cast material and hand painted in bronze tones.
Reproductions will be sold for profit that will be used to build 7 life-size bronze monuments which will be placed in 7 prominent locations throughout Alaska. A number of these locations are hometowns of veteran territorial guards. Images of the original sculpture can been seen online at STATUES.COM.
