February 01, 2007 - More and more children are getting behind as classroom sizes swell and the needs of students are more diverse. As a parent, we often trust the teacher to somehow get our children to read. With most guided reading programs being in the thousands, it's realatively impossible to own what schools own. But now, Stargazer Press has announced the launch of our parent's edition of Stargazer's Affordable Guided Reading Kit.
Brought out first in 2005 with just the Canadian and U.S. edition, it was soon followed by first the British, then French, Spanish and German editions. Plans are in the works to complete volume two sometime in the late spring.
"Schools across North America immediately embraced the idea of a resource they could print a booklet from and then make multiple copies over and over again without fear of copyright. Our resource was designed for the school community," says Stargazer Press Spokesperson.
The idea took off. This Cd with 130 printable stories in 26 measured reading levels was an instant hit and went out to schools around North America. Some teachers reported that they love how many stories there are and their high interest to children.
"Nowadays, we want parents to be armed with the ability to teach their kids how to read. We've tested this product with parents with varying amounts of interest and education. They all report their children have advanced forward almost overnight in as little as three or four stories a week," says a Stargazer Press Spokesperson.
What makes the program different is that parents have two choices of the kinds of booklets they want to print. They can either print them as hand held books or in a sort of placemat style.
Children are immediately interested because they can sit down at the computer and pick out a few stories. One of the children tested likes to cut out the words and line them up with the pictures on a piece of paper she has now made into a booklet; while another child likes to put them in a binder, swing them open and read. These children are not just reading but they're exceeding.
This program will last a child four years from start to finish.
