July 18, 2008 - Nevada – Spread the Word Nevada: Kids to Kids, a children's literacy organization, which provides books to Nevada's at-risk children, is selected "Nonprofit of the Year," by In Business Las Vegas Magazine, as part of its 2008 Angel Awards. There were more than 85 nominations for the newly created Angel Awards. Spread the Word Nevada was one of seven organizations and individuals chosen to receive an Angel Award at a recent awards ceremony.
As an award recipient, Spread the Word Nevada: Kids to Kids, is featured in the 2008-2009 Giving Guide, a special supplement to In Business Las Vegas featuring companies and individuals who make a difference in Southern Nevada. Within the publication, a nonprofit profile of Spread the Word Nevada initiatives was sponsored by Majestic Realty Foundation.
Rob Langrell, Editor of Special Publications for In Business Las Vegas, writes in the Giving Guide, "The Angel Awards were established to acknowledge and encourage the accomplishments and contributions of our most outstanding community leaders. Lisa Habighorst, Executive Director, of Spread the Word Nevada accepted the Angel Awards at a cocktail reception held in Henderson, Nevada. "It's an absolute honor to be selected as 'Nonprofit of the Year' among so many wonderful organizations nominated. It's a privilege to be able to serve the community and encourage reading in our youth," said Habighorst.
Kids to Kids, a flagship program of Spread the Word Nevada, Inc., a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) corporation, serves at-risk children and helps them create home library collections of books to read and share with family members. While developing a love of reading, these libraries promote future academic achievement and higher self-esteem, which impacts lifelong success. Since 2001, the program has distributed over one million books and has served more than 94,000 children in the Las Vegas Valley and Clark County School District.
