SourceForge.net 2009 Community Choice Awards Nominations Start Today

Nominations will be accpeted until May 29th.

(1888PressRelease) May 07, 2009 - MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- SourceForge (NASDAQ: LNUX), the global online network for community-driven tech media and e-commerce, today announced the opening of nominations for the fourth annual SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards. The awards program allows the community to recognize open source software projects that are built with the highest quality, creativity and ingenuity.

"These awards showcase innovators who work together to create something new and fantastic," said Ross Turk, SourceForge Director of Community. "Unlike most award programs, we don't have a panel of experts choosing our finalists because we want the open source community to tell us, first hand, what the most exciting projects are. That's why we need your nominations!"

The categories for the 2009 Community Choice Awards are:

Best Project
Best Project for the Enterprise
Best Project for Gamers
Best Tool or Utility for SysAdmins
Best Visual Design
Best Tool or Utility for Developers
Best Commercial Open Source Project
Best Project for Academia
Best Project for Multimedia
Best Project for Government
Most Likely to Change the Way You Do Everything
Best New Project

Nominations will be accepted until May 29th, and the ten projects with the most nominations in each category will become finalists. The winners will be announced at a party, held at the Agenda Lounge in San Jose, CA, starting at 6:00 pm PT on the night of July 23rd, during the week of OSCON.

Turk continued, "We're planning some new and interesting things for the awards party this year --but if you can't be there in person, we'll make sure you can still be part of the fun"
