SOS Mother’s Training Centre Celebrated SOS Day

90th birth anniversary of Late Dr. Hermann Gmeiner, Founder Father of SOS movement celebrated.


(1888PressRelease) June 25, 2009 - Faridabad - Mother’s Training Centre today celebrated SOS Day in remembrance of 90th birth anniversary of Late Dr. Hermann Gmeiner, Founder Father of SOS movement around the world and the year marks the 60th anniversary celebrations of SOS Children's Villages. Guests present on the occasion praised how SOS movement had provided a new lease of life to thousands of abandoned children in India. Local guests, media friends, children and mothers from SOS Village and co-workers attended the celebration.

The event started with offering floral tribute to Dr. Hermann Gmeiner and prayer by Mother Trainees followed by lighting lamp in front of Dr. Gmeiner's portrait. To make the day special and memorable various competitions were organized at the Mother’s Training Centre. The first event was competition among Mother Trainees in Salad Making and Rangoli Making. Judges present on the occasion evaluated the Rangolies and Salads prepared by Mother Trainees and awarded them. These were followed by song and dance performance by Mother Trainees. Main attraction of the celebration was a dance drama organized on Dr. Hermann Gmeiner’s concept of family and a mother. The day also marked 60th anniversary of SOS Children’s Villages.

The event was also attended by SOS friends & well wishers, who profusely appreciated the efforts by the organization.

In his message on this occasion Shri Rakesh Jinsi, Secretary General - SOS Children’s Villages of India said, “SOS Family is honored by the gracious presence of the honorable guests on the 90th birth anniversary of our guiding force Dr. Hermann Gmeiner. We are overwhelmed by the continuous trust and support we have received from the people for our Children’s Villages across the country. This day serves as a reminder to strengthen our resolve to provide long term family based care to parentless children of India. “

About Mother’s Training Centre
Started in May 1984, Mothers School is an integral and an important project of SOS Children’s Villages of India. It imparts training to women who join as prospective Mothers. It is a two years training programme in which a woman receives an intensive formal training which is competency based in the areas of child’s health, nutrition, child care and development with specific reference to adolescent age group, child’s education, career planning for children, Mother Craft and Home Management. It is the only centre in India and there are no regional centres. It trains and prepares women for different SOS Children’s Villages of India.

SOS Children’s Villages of India is a non profit, non-government, voluntary organization, committed to the care of children in need and to strengthening families and communities as a preventive measure in the fight against abandonment and social neglect. The aim & objective of the SOS Children’s Villages of India is to help parentless and homeless children by giving them a family, home and a strong foundation for an independent and secure life. SOS-India is a member of SOS-Kinderdorf International, operational in 132 countries.

“SOS Children’s Villages of India” was registered as a society and came into being in 1964 after Dr Hermann Gmeiner, the founder father of the SOS movement visited India in 1963 at the invitation of the first Indian Prime Minister, late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The first SOS Children’s Village was established in 1964 at Greenfields, Faridabad, Haryana.

Since its inception in the year 1964 SOS Children’s Villages of India has expanded its services for children in need at a rapid pace. Today, there are 40 SOS Children’s Villages including facilities for Tibetan children and a new village coming up at Mumbai, 122 allied projects like Kindergartens, Schools, Social, Medical, Vocational Training Centres and Outreach Initiatives spread across the country reaching out to over 15,000 children.
