March 05, 2009 - Soccer Madness, owned and operated by the husband and wife team of Michael and Lisa Mathis, features a large selection of name brand soccer gear. The 3,000-square-foot store is able to outfit the 6-year-old player and the serious athlete, carrying everything from shin guards to soccer balls. Small shoes for beginners start at $20 while shoes for elite athletes can hit $350. Apparel for soccer moms is also included in the mix. Soccer Madness also specializes in team uniforms from recreational to travel soccer clubs as well as high school uniforms. The business offers lettering, embroidery, screen printing, digital printing and heat transfers for uniforms.
“We opened this store because we are crazy about this game,” effused Michael Mathis. “We wanted to create a store that reflects our passion for soccer and the people who love to play the game. We made sure to carry everything and anything that a true soccer enthusiast would want.” Mathis developed a love for soccer while attending Indiana University, where he met his wife. The couple has two sons involved in the sport, Dylan 13 and Jake 11.
The store is located in the Woodland Commons Shopping Center, intentionally deep within the suburban community. “It was important to us to locate the store in this area, so we can help further promote the game and support the local community,” continued Lisa Mathis. The Mathis’ have already begun contributing to the local soccer community by agreeing to sponsor the upcoming 2009 Grove United / Soccer Madness Memorial Day Shootout taking place in Schaumburg, Illinois.
The two-day grand opening features a variety of in-store events, including soccer ball jugging contests, t-shirt and poster giveaways, as well as special discounts on select items like Nike products and shin guards. Newcomers to Soccer Madness can also join the store’s loyalty program, and in so doing get an immediate $10 discount on anything they purchase.
The grand opening also features several raffles. The winners will receive prizes ranging from gift certificates to a pair of goalkeeper gloves, autographed by Tony Meola, the renowned USA goalkeeper who played for the United States national team at the 1990, 1994 and 2002 World Cups, and from 1996 to 2006 played in Major League Soccer, the U.S. top soccer division, where he obtained multiple honors
