  • (1888PressRelease) October 19, 2016 - Jona Goldrich was a holocaust survivor who arrived in LA 60 years ago with $50 in his pocket and, with partner Sol Kest, parlayed that into one of California's largest privately owned real estate partnerships. In recognition of his extraordinary business acumen and charitable giving, Goldrich was posthumously honored by the Apartment Association/Southern California Cities with its inaugural Award of Inspiration. On hand to accept the honor at the Long Beach Convention Center amid a rousing standing ovation was his daughter, Melinda Goldrich.

The senior Goldrich, who recently passed at 88, and partner Kest started the company bearing their names nearly 60 years ago. Together they built a portfolio of apartment buildings, marinas, senior living facilities, commercial buildings, retail properties, mixed-use commercial space and housing developments.

Approximately 70 of the apartment buildings house low-income families and it is there that the company underwrites free after-school and summer programs for its young residents.

Goldrich was also recognized for creating the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust in Pan Pacific Park so that future generations can learn about the atrocities the Nazis committed with the hope that they are never repeated.

"It was an honor to present this inaugural award to Mr. Goldrich's family in recognition for his amazing career and lifelong dedication to serving others," said the association's Executive Director Johanna Cunningham. "The company is legendary in our industry and our organization is proud to be part of his legacy."

Added Melinda Goldrich, "My father had a passion for business and serving the community. Our family is proud to accept this award on his behalf."
