June 29, 2008 - Shopforbags.com and the Katydid Collection contribute $2500 to American Cancer Society through the Cattle Baron’s Ball
For Katy Messersmith, President of Shopforbags.com and designer of the Katydid collection, the Cattle Baron’s Ball represented the perfect opportunity to express her appreciation for the tireless efforts of the American Cancer Society towards cancer research and the search for a cure. The event is the nation’s largest fundraising event to benefit the ACS and has raised over $34 million since 1974.
For Messersmith, the ACS’ efforts are universally important as well as very personal. While always aware of the seriousness of the disease, the realities of cancer hit close to home when her father, Donald Messersmith, survived a battle with colon cancer in 2000. In recognition of the importance of the ACS’ cancer research, Shopforbags.com donated $2,500 through the ball. “I realize how important it is for cancer research in hopes that there will one day be a cure for cancer,” explains Messersmith. “I count my blessings that he is a survivor and this was the least I can do.” Shopforbags.com’s donation and other funds raised at the event will benefit research conducted by pioneering institutions such as UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
