October 14, 2009 - “Along with education on the dangers of sun exposure, it is important to offer a healthy alternative for tanning,” states Barth. “We want to partner with the spa industry to offer this sun safe alternative to their clients,” he adds. “With the participation of the spa industry advocating healthy sun-safe beauty alternatives to their clients, we can make a difference in our communities,” Barth concludes.
“As a sun safe spa you are offering your clients the best method for looking “sun-kissed’ while protecting their skin from harmful UV rays. Not only will this help protect them from developing skin cancers, but it also will slow down the development of UV-induced age spots and wrinkles by providing clients with an attractive “UV alternative”, states foundation medical advisor Ann F. Haas M.D. Dermatology.
Partnering with the Skin Cancer Awareness Foundation, the Solérra® sunless tanning brand contributed to the inaugural issue of Sun Smart Connection Magazine. Angie Trelstad, President of Sunless Beauty, Ltd., the manufacturers of Solérra Sunless Tanning Science products, contributed an educational article about the many benefits of sunless tanning. “With incidences of skin cancer increasing every year—there is no good excuse for getting your ‘sun-kissed glow’ from dangerous UVA & UVB rays,” said Trelstad. “In today’s environment, sunless tanning should be the ‘in thing’ when it comes to getting a tan.”
The Skin Cancer Awareness Foundation is inviting spa’s to join this potentially life savings mission to “Protect and Pamper our Skin” and sign up as a Sun Safe Spa. “We are launching Sun Safe Spa Day on May 1, 2010 to coincide with May which is Skin Cancer Awareness month,” states Barth. “We are inviting all spas to commit to providing 50 minute Sun Safe Spa treatment for $50 on this day and to donate 50% to the Skin Cancer Awareness Foundation,” he adds. “Donations are tax deductable per IRS guidelines and this is a win-win for everyone as all participating members will be widely publicized as committed UV healthy community members, and gain access to a new target audience and potential clients,” concluded Barth.
“There are numerous benefits for the spa industry to join as a Sun Safe Spa,” states Barth. “Our children educational programs are focused on schools, mothers with children and every caring community member. The additional revenue and product/service exposure impact could be enormous considering the possibility of thousands of new customers shopping at spa industry stores or websites.” Additional benefits include use of the Skin Cancer Awareness Foundation logo and Sun Safe Spa logo for their websites, Sun Safe Spa Certificate for download and display use indicating that they are a conscious community advocate and web listing on the foundation web site with their business web link.
