May 13, 2009 - Silvadec holds the first European Licence for Strandex, which enables it to use Strandex’s patented technology, processes and materials expertise in the extrusion of wood-plastic composite profiles. Silvadec markets solid boards rather than hollow boards, which are more commonly found on the market.
Silvadec’s Forexia® wood composite boards include ranges for both decking and fencing. The boards are ideal for use outdoors, particularly for swimming pools and for sailing boats. No treatment products are required for the maintenance of the boards, which just need to be washed with water once a year. The boards are available in a wide range of colours and finishes.
Forexia® wood composite is made from a two-thirds wood and only one-third polymer mix, combining the rigidity and appearance of wood with the ease of maintenance of polymer. The boards, therefore, have the feel of natural wood and do not look like plastic. Forexia® is guaranteed against termite and fungus attacks for 25 years and is naturally resistant to other biological and atmospheric factors, including humidity. Forexia® requires no treatment agents, such as fungicides or insecticides, and no oil or preservative coating is needed. The boards are not sensitive to chlorine or to seawater.
Forexia® offers resistance to abrasion and crushing that is comparable to that of oak. It does not require any specific tools and can be worked like solid wood, using a saw, plane or drill. Forexia does not rot, distort or crack and it contains no toxic products. There is no risk of splinters and it also offers good slip resistance, both in wet and dry conditions. Besides, it does not turn grey over time, unlike solid wood.
Forexia® wood composite for decking is available in four standard colours – Exotic Brown, Colorado Brown, Iroise Grey and Tropical Red – and two finishes: grooved or smooth. This large choice means that decking can be created to match every style of architecture. The deck boards are volume tinted and are resistant to UV rays. The boards have a consistent appearance, with no knots or other imperfections.
Forexia® wood composite screens for fencing are supplied with thermo-lacquered aluminium posts. The screens resist strong winds and can be adapted to suit different ground types. The screens and posts come in a range of heights and colours.
Silvadec’s factory employs 40 people and has four production lines. The company is the market leader in France and is also a major player across Europe. Its recent projects have included supplying 8,000m² of decking at Barcelona airport (Spain), and it also provided material for the Eden Project in Cornwall (United Kingdom).
By using recycled sawdust and wood shavings from European sawmills as raw material, Silvadec puts sustainable development at the heart of its manufacturing. As a result, and despite the significant production volumes used, no trees are cut down solely to supply the company. Moreover, by offering products that are similar to exotic woods, Silvadec helps to reduce the large-scale deforestation that is required for the supply of such woods. Silvadec’s production system generates no industrial waste, as all waste is reused in production. Silvadec also aims to recycle all of its products at the end of their life, as far as it is technically possible.
