SideKlick™, today announced the release of version 2.0 of its TV4IM™ service for AOL’s AIM 6 Instant Messenger. SideKlick has been gaining attention since it’s first release in November 2006 (see review at http://newteevee.com/). SideKlick searches for and serves up popular web videos based on the user’s IM conversations.
The new SideKlick 2.0 presents videos that contextually match the user’s IM conversation in a unique SideStrip™ interface that shows thumbnails of the candidate videos as they are found and served. The user can click on any thumbnail to view the video. New videos can be selected from the SideStrip at any time.
SideKlick presents content from a variety of sources including YouTube. Founder and CEO Dennis Faust noted that “content that is in context with your conversation is inherently appealing, and SideKlick finds interesting contextually matched content without the user needing to do any searching. SideKlick is a natural for the 15-30 IM demographic, one that is getting harder and harder for advertisers to connect with.”
SideKlick makes it fun and easy for IMers to share and enjoy videos they like while chatting. Videos can be dragged and dropped from the SideStrip into the user’s IM conversation. The user’s IM buddy will get a link to the video and an offer to get SideKlick for free if he or she doesn’t already have it. SideKlick is a free download that runs on Windows XP and works with AIM 6. SideKlick respects its users' privacy; IM conversations are not saved, republished or attributed.
SideKlick’s funding is from Meca Communications, a pioneer in branded Instant Messaging service. Meca is spinning SideKlick out as an independent entity. Bob Kimball, Meca’s CEO, is a co-founder of SideKlick and will join SideKlick as its CMO as part of the spinout.
