  • Bergen-Passaic, NJ (1888PressRelease) June 12, 2014 - Mark and Karen Andrews always considered their second home at the Jersey Shore to be their retreat for family and friends - where they might someday retire. Even after Superstorm Sandy wrecked it, they didn't give up on their waterfront haven. So they tore it down and replaced it on the same spot with a bigger, safer and much higher home, constructed by Walters Homes' ReBUILD Division.

The quaint enclave known as Beach Haven West was one of the hardest-hit areas along the shore, and after taking in several feet of water, the Andrews found little to salvage in their home.

"It was just a tiny three-bedroom shack of a house, but it was nice, and we enjoyed the dock. So it led us to thinking about the possibilities," said Mark Andrews, a Wharton Township resident.

Once they decided to demolish and start over, they explored all their options. After researching modular homes, they opted for ReBUILD, a custom home division created by local award-winning developer Walters Homes. ReBUILD has taken on the task of reconstructing homes and making them safer and stronger than they were before the storm.

"I found the modular home dealers were difficult for me to deal with," explains Andrews. "I just didn't get good vibes. They would offer us a price then call us back and say it's $20,000 more.

"What really sold us on ReBUILD was their reputation since we knew people who used them, and their website made it easy to find the house that fit on our lot," added Andrews. "Once we met with Ed Walters, we felt comfortable about our decision to go with ReBUILD. They were straightforward and easy to work with."

"The hurricane was a preview of what coastal areas can expect in the decades ahead," said Ed Walters, founder and partner of Walters Group. "It's important for homeowners to mitigate future damage by rebuilding homes that meet the new flood zone regulations."

The Andrews consider themselves lucky to have found ReBuild. Within six months of starting the construction process, their 750-square-foot summer bungalow was replaced with the 1,250-square-foot Windrift, one of 39 models offered by ReBUILD. The home's open floor plan consists of three-bedrooms, two baths, including a master bedroom suite. The house was also elevated five feet, exceeding flood zone standards for the area.

"We got a turn-key home," said Andrews. "All we have to do now is furnish it."

    ReBuild Offers Energy-Star

ReBUILD is focused on helping people navigate through the entire process of re-creating their house. Home shoppers can choose from 39 single-family home designs, specifically crafted for their property. The one- and two-story home plans feature three- and four-bedrooms, ranging from 500 sq. ft. to 2,293 sq. ft., and priced from $75,705. As an added value, the homes are Energy Star-certified, and offer a long list of standard interior and exterior amenities including energy-efficient appliances, ample lighting and HVAC systems.

In an effort to redefine the way homes are being built along the Jersey coastline, ReBuild has raised its construction standards so that in flood prone areas a house is built above the flood elevations. The firm also works closely with homeowners to assist with permitting, financing, insurance claims and more.

Two ReBUILD sales offices are now open. At the Beach Haven West sales office located on Mill Creek Road in Manahawkin, visitors have the opportunity to tour the fully furnished four-bedroom West Wind model. In Ortley Beach, the sales center is located at 1801 Route 35 North.

Walters Homes is the developer of numerous single-family, multi-family, and rental apartment communities in Ocean County.
