January 24, 2008 - A family run carpet cleaning business has just completed a job at what it believes might be the longest piece of flooring in the North.
Specialist cleaners Clean & Revita has just revitalised more than a kilometre of carpet along the walkways which lead to the passenger ships at the Port of Tyne International Cruise Terminal at North Shields.
Owner of Clean & Revita, Paul King, says it’s the ‘longest’ job he’s ever had to complete in his 20 year history. He added: “We get a whole range of requests from both domestic and commercial premises to clean certain areas, but this one is certainly one of the most unusual and longest I ever remember.”
And to add to the challenge, the team at Clean & Revita knew they had to complete the job in record time as the two walkways – 600m each – were being used the next day for departures and arrivals of passenger ships.
Paul King, 36, uses specially developed cleaning products that are both environmentally-friendly and quick drying. “With the tight deadlines, we pulled all our teams onto the job to make sure it could dry overnight and be ready in time for passengers to use the next morning,” added Paul. “It was certainly a challenge, but one that we are delighted to have taken on.”
As well as the passenger corridor, Clean & Revita also worked on the entire departure hall at the passenger terminal in the Royal Quays.
Fergus Poole, Terminal Manager at Port of Tyne, said: “The corridor connecting the passenger ships to the main terminal is of vital importance to us as it’s the first thing visitors see of Newcastle and the North East.
“The size of the job and the speed we needed it done seemed to matter little to Paul and his team. We’re thoroughly impressed with the finished job.”
