June 21, 2007 - Seal Beach Animal Care Center has been collecting used cell phones for the past three years to help raise money for their non-profit animal shelter. They are asking the public to get involved and help out by donating inactive cell phones to the center.
SBACC is a pro-life animal shelter committed to finding permanent, loving homes for the animals that come into their care. They primarily serve the City of Seal Beach, but network with other shelters, rescue groups, and animal sanctuaries across the country.
By collecting old cell phones, SBACC has raised over $2,000. The money goes directly to the care of the animals and assists with medical and veterinary costs. The center receives many animals that are very ill and injured, and the money raised from used cell phones is vital in helping them to receive care.
Not only can unwanted cell phones help SBACC, when they are donated they are sent to a company who recycles them, which inhibits them from ending up in landfills. So you'll also be helping the environment, as cell phones and their batteries contain harmful components such as lead, arsenic, and mercury.
Cell phone donations may be dropped off at Seal Beach Animal Care Center during their business hours. They are open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 2 p.m. – 4p.m. They are also open Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. They are located at 1700 Adolfo Lopez Drive in Seal Beach, CA, 90740. Cell phones may be mailed to that address if you are unable to drop them off.
