  • (1888PressRelease) March 23, 2014 - A special session for commemorating the collaboration between Sharp Sight Centre group of eye hospitals of Delhi and Dr. Manzoor Eye Clinic in Srinagar was recently held at SKICC in Srinagar, India. The event which was hosted by Dr. Manzoor Eye Clinic was attended by many famous J&K dignitaries including the chief guests for the evening J&K national conference president and Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Kashmir's renowned doctor and former principal GMC Professor Girija Dhar. Also present at the launch ceremony were administrator of the centre Dr Khursheed Ahmad, Co- administrator Dr Seema Mian, Directors of Sharp Sight Eye Hospital Dr Kamal Kapoor and Dr Sameer Sood and Justice Muzzafar Jan.

    The purpose behind this collaboration is to extend advance eye care facilities with superior technology, highly experienced surgeons and professional managing system to the people of Jammu and Kashmir valley, a thought shared by both Dr. Khurseed Ahmad and Dr. Sameer Sood, administrator and director of Dr. Manzoor eye clinic and Sharp Sight group of eye hospitals respectively.

    The new facilities which include Collagen Cross linkage treatment for thin cornea, Micro Phaco surgery for Cataract, vitro retinal surgery for diabetics and custom baqsed Lasik laser surgery for spectacle removal can be availed by the whole region of J&K easily thus nullifying the option of travelling outside the state for eye treatments.

    It will also grant a chance to young boys and girls for whom certain career options become restricted due to imperfect vision as stated by Dr. Kamal Kapoor, director Sharp group of eye hospitals.

    Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ahmad too stressed upon the importance of pooling of resources by various institutions to extend quality eye care facilities to the people which would otherwise prove expensive and out of reach for some.

    Both Dr. Sameer Sood and co administrator Dr. Seema Mian acknowledged the string of health benefits that will come to people as well as creation of several jobs in its wake.
    Chief guest for the event, Dr. Farooq Abdullah expressed his liberal views on the importance of private sector investment in health projects than malls and hotels.

    "It is unfortunate that people are shying away from investing in building hospitals to provide better facilities to people."

    Stressing upon the need for more participation from private sector rather than relying on government intervention, Dr. Abdullah also highlighted the need for more institutions like Dr. Manzoor Eye Clinic and the role they are playing in spurring up the health sector in the valley.

    "Our health strategy has to look beyond government intervention. Private healthcare has to assume importance due to increasing trend of lifestyle diseases and growing technology".

    Also present at the event, professor Girija Dhar found this collaboration an excellent and a welcome change in perception of medical aid given by private sector. She also asked the health care providers to make special provisions and concessions for poor and marginalized people.
