January 18, 2007 - Sharjah Department of Civil Aviation & Sharjah Airport Authority have taken measures to ensure the airport is well equipped to meet the increase in passenger traffic as pilgrims leave and return for Haj. Mr. Mubarak Fahad, Director Ground Services, Sharjah Airport Authority said, “Our aim is to ease the process for all Haj pilgrims especially during the Haj season wherein we are expecting a huge rise in passenger movement.”
Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Thani Chairman, DCA Sharjah gave special directions to ensure the smooth travel process of all pilgrims and to provide the best facilities and services for the pilgrims".
Dr. Ghanem Al Hajri Director General DCA & Sharjah Airport Authority added, “The airport has provided a rest area for all pilgrims before their flight timing where refreshments are offered. Also, a religious teacher from the Islamic Department is available to answer questions and queries regarding Haj.”
Mr. Ali Salem Midfa, Director Sharjah Airport Authority also said, “ A detailed film on Haj is being shown on the airport plasma screens during the pilgrims stay at the rest areas provided for them. Available to the pilgrims are Haj books and small guides in different languages to help with these pilgrims on their journey, especially those making the pilgrimage for the first time.”
The airport has increased the number of porters to help pilgrims with their luggage hence making sure of passenger comfort and easy movement through the airport. Airlines which increased their frequency during the Haj period are Royal Brunei Airways which operates 12 flights to Jeddah (technical stops), Indian Airlines operating 36 flights (technical stops) and Saudi Arabian Airlines operating one direct flight. On their return journey, friendly staff members from the airport’s HALA department will be on hand the welcome the pilgrims and aid them with all their travel formalities and procedures.
