July 03, 2009 - The Far East Forum on Nondestructive Evaluation/Testing: New Technology & Application (FENDT) (http://www.fendti.com/), being held for the 5th time in 2009, provides a platform in China for NDT experts and professionals aiming to accelerate the scientific and technical development in the field of non-destructive testing.
The four-day forum, held June 11-14 2009 in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province in China focused on five specific topics: inspection theory and basic technology research, development of NDT inspection application technology, inspection of nuclear power equipment with NDT methods, high-tech applications and education and talent cultivation.
SGS not only attended the FENDT but also contributed to the program with two presentations on latest issues.
Mr. Sam Xu, trainer and examiner at SGS NDT Training and Examination Center, presented a paper to an audience of around 150 attendees, titled: European NDT Personnel Training and Certification in China. In his presentation, Sam gave an overview of the different types of NDT certifications enhancing the importance of quality training and certification. During the presentation, Sam explained about the gaps between the current Chinese NDT certification systems and European systems (PCN / EN473) and how SGS are offering a solution to close this gap.
The second presentation was held by Mr. Norbert Trimborn, NDT expert at the SGS Global NDT – Special Examinations Center in the Netherlands, on Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD). Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) (www.sgs.com/ndt-time-of-flight-diffraction-tofd?serviceId=10134179&lobId=5550) is a sensitive, accurate method for the Non-Destructive Testing of welds for defects.
SGS also offers a fully integrated service pack combining Non-Destructive Testing (both advanced and conventional methods), inspection and Mechanical Integrity (www.assetintegrity.sgs.com/mims_assetintegrity) providing quality assurance and safety.
