DATELINE: BRAINTREE AND QUINCY, MA... Seniors and caregivers are invited to the 19th Annual Quincy August Moon Festival on Sunday, August 20th (rain date August 27th), from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at President Plaza, 219 Quincy Avenue in Quincy for entertainment; delicious Asian cuisine, and the opportunity to learn more about valuable resources available to them at South Shore Elder Services’ booth. Admission to the festival is FREE.
More than 6,000 people attended last year’s August Moon Festival, which brings together the Asian community to celebrate Asian heritage. Local business owners and social service organizations, such as South Shore Elder Services, participate by setting up vendor and informational booths.
Quincy Asian Resources, Inc. (QARI) runs the signature cultural event which includes performances by local artists, exhibits, crafts in addition to children and senior programming.
According to Frank Poon, August Moon Festival Chairman and South Shore Elder Services’ Director of Asian Outreach, “The August Moon Festival is a wonderful way for families to celebrate, and the general public to learn more about Asian heritage. The Festival offers plenty to do with quite a bit of information about important local resources available to seniors and others.”
A number of raffles will be held at the festival, including a raffle for a new Scion as well as round trip international air tickets. Raffle tickets are $1 each and proceeds support the services and resources offered to the community by Quincy Asian Resources. All entries must be submitted by 2:30 p.m. and the drawing will be held later the same day at President’s Plaza.
Free shuttle bus service to August Moon Festival is offered at the North Quincy T station and Quincy Center T station as well as at Quincy Asian Resources (1509 Hancock Street) and the Quincy Municipal Credit Union (100 Quincy Avenue).
