Senior Artists Sought For Coral Gables Art Show

Coral Gables' Park and Recreation Department and Senior Citizen Advisory Committee seek local talent for 3rd annual Senior Citizen Art Show.

Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) August 21, 2009 - Calling all senior artists. The City of Coral Gables' Park and Recreation Department and Senior Citizen Advisory Committee are currently seeking entries for the 3rd annual Senior Citizen Art Show, "Celebration of Talent".

The competition is open to Coral Gables residents, age 55 and over, who do not rely on their artistic works to earn a living.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: photography (8 inches by 10 inches minimum); paintings and drawings; hard crafts such as sculpture, ceramics and woodworking; and soft crafts including needlework, quilting and weaving.

"We’re truly looking forward to this year's entries," said Carol Brock, chairperson of the Senior Board. "We continue to be amazed and inspired by the outstanding talent and creativity of our city's seniors. Showcasing and bringing attention to this reservoir of abilities is good for the city and our community at large."

No entry fees are required and interested artists may submit up to four entries. Prize-winning submissions from previous years’ shows are not eligible for re-entry. Entry forms must be received by October 1, 2009.

All artwork will be on display at the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center, 405 University Drive, Coral Gables, on Friday, November 13 and Saturday, November 14. The Friday evening opening ceremony will be hosted by The Palace Management Group, one of South Florida's leading companies specializing in senior housing and care.

"It's an honor for us to sponsor 'Celebration of Talent' for the third year," said Helen Shaham, president of The Palace. "The competition has quickly become one of the city's most highly anticipated events."

Last year's "Celebration of Talent" featured over 100 entries from 30 artists ranging in age from 55 to 92. The grand prize winning art work was a quilt by Betty Roxborough.
