  • Jacksonville, FL (1888PressRelease) June 08, 2016 - Senator Aaron Bean was one of ten legislators chosen to receive the 2016 Champions for Business Award from the Associated Industries of Florida. Each year, AIF recognizes lawmakers whose extraordinary efforts provide model leadership on key legislation for the success of Florida's business community.

"At AIF, we proudly honor those elected officials who defend Florida's competitive climate and continually strive to keep the Sunshine State a place where businesses and families can prosper," said AIF President & CEO Tom Feeney. "AIF acknowledges this year's Champions for Business for their commendable leadership and advocacy on behalf of Florida's business community."

Senator Bean, who represents Florida Senate District 4, was applauded by AIF for his leadership in tort reform and protecting the important legal principle for Floridians. AIF said Senator Bean understands the importance of safeguarding the legal system from stealth attacks by the trial bar that AIF says undermines the state's friendly business climate.

Senator Bean was successful in identifying and blocking legislation during the committee process. AIF said this legislation would have created loopholes in comparative faults statutes and permitted the unfair doctrine of joint and several liability to creep back into Florida law. The organization said his action protected the philosophy that a person should only pay for their fair share of damages and echoed the warnings and concerns expressed by AIF and its colleagues in the business community.

"It is important to maintain our business friendly environment in Florida," said Senator Bean. "Florida's future depends on our economic success and that is determined by business. It is vital to me to protect those that will create jobs and thus boost our state's economic bottom line."

This is the third time Senator Bean has been named a recipient for the Champions of Business award. It will be presented to the Senator at the Champions for Business Awards Reception at AIF's 2016 Annual Conference in Orlando on October 5-6, 2016. Since 2003, AIF has given a total of 202 Champions for Business awards to 88 different elected officials.

AIF has represented the principles of prosperity and free enterprise before the three branches of state government since 1920. A voluntary association of diversified businesses, AIF was created to foster an economic climate in Florida conducive to the growth, development, and welfare of industry and business and the people of the state.
