Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease)
April 09, 2009 - The first race in 2009, the Red Line Time Attack, started officially on March 31, 2009 at Buttonwillow Raceway. Edo Performance pit crew team was present during the race event providing pit service to Scott Vanderheide. Scott's car, a 2005 Subaru STi, was prepared and re-built during the off-season at Edo Performance's facility in Huntington Beach, California by Edo's service team led by Service Manager and Crew Chief, Robert Krencik.
To recap the events during the off season, Scott's 2005 Subaru STi received 100mm 8.2:1 Cosworth® pistons, Forced Performance® HTA Green Turbo and Tial 38mm external waste-gate for its engine. For engine cooling, the car had a Mishimoto radiator and Mishimoto oil cooler kit installed. Scott's car was provided gauges and stand-alone Engine Management from AEM® as well. The motor rebuild and installations were performed at EDO's facility under the expert supervision and guidance of Robert Krencik.
Not only did EDO support Scott's motor rebuild, EDO also provided the 2005 STi with Zero/Sports® aerodynamically efficient body kit and Zero/Sports® big brake caliper to complement the added power from the FP Green turbo and Cosworth® pistons. When the motor rebuild was complete, the car was fine tuned and registered peak power of 440WHP and 450lb/ft of torque on 100-octane with water methanol injection, an increase of 70WHP and 60lb/ft of torque over last season. It was time for the car to be put on test at Buttonwillow Raceway.
During Saturday warm-up, the new rebuilt motor was showing its power. Unfortunately, the new suspension upgrade that was supposed to be delivered to Scott was incomplete, and it caused the 2005 STi to experience major under-steer using the stock suspension during lap practices. The new power also made it difficult to keep the silicone couplers from popping off the charge pipes. Once we had the pipes all secured it came down to handling. Stock suspension only allowed Scott to get a time at 20th place, just enough to qualify for the first time attack session. With sheer luck, the KW suspension that Scott used to own was delivered back to him for rebuilding on Sunday morning. Robert and Scott swiftly decided to perform full suspension swap on the 2005 STi. With EDO crew jumping on the car and Robert leading the suspension swap, the whole process was completed within 45 minutes including an alignment. We realized that we were ready for the first time attack session.
With the upgraded suspension, the under-steer was eliminated and the newfound power performed in-sync with the rest of the upgraded components from alignment, aerodynamics to brake system. The only thing needed was to install the new R1R's for traction. Logan, EDO technician and lead pit crew tech, had the new tires changed onto Scott's spare rims while he was still on the track so we could be ready for a real fast run in the next session. In the end, Scott was able to achieve a time of 1:59.1 beating his own previous best record by 2.5 seconds and a 3rd place podium finish in the AWD Street Class. The 1st and 3rd position were separated by mere half second. It was an excellent finish to start the season. Edo Performance Service team is very excited about the result. "We are so excited to offer track side support service for this time attack event," said Robert. Congratulations to Scott Vanderheide!
